Boat & Marine Wraps in Rhode Island

Marine-grade vinyl wraps using 3M IJ180mC-10 film rated for 5+ years in saltwater. Hull graphics, full color changes, boat name lettering, and interior accents. Serving Newport, Narragansett, and all Rhode Island marinas.

Why Marine Wraps Need Different Vinyl

A boat lives in a harsher environment than any road vehicle. The vinyl is submerged or splashed with saltwater, baked by reflected UV off the water surface, subjected to fuel and chemical exposure at the dock, and flexed by the constant motion of the hull. Standard cast vinyl rated for road use will delaminate, shrink, or fade in a marine environment within 1–2 seasons.

Marine wraps require a vinyl specifically formulated to hold adhesion in constant moisture, resist saltwater chemical attack, and maintain flexibility through hull flex and temperature cycling. That is why we use 3M's marine-rated IJ180mC-10 for every boat project.

The 3M IJ180mC-10 Spec

We use 3M IJ180mC-10 cast vinyl for all marine wrap projects. This is 3M's flagship wrapping film, rated for 5+ years of durability in marine environments when paired with a compatible overlaminate. It features 3M's Pressure-Activated Adhesive, which allows the installer to slide and reposition the film during application and then lock it down with firm pressure — critical for the large, curved surfaces of a hull.

The vinyl is engineered to conform to compound curves without shrinking back, and its UV-stable pigments resist fading even under the intense reflected sunlight that boats are exposed to on the water.

Boat Wrap vs. Repaint

A professional marine paint job for a 20–30 ft boat typically costs $8,000–$20,000 and requires 4–8 weeks of downtime, during which the boat is out of the water and unusable. A full hull wrap for the same boat typically costs $3,000–$8,000 and takes 5–10 business days.

The wrap also gives you the option of changing the boat's appearance again in the future without the cost and environmental concerns of stripping and repainting. For most recreational and charter boat owners, a wrap delivers a better visual result at a lower cost and with far less downtime.

Prep Requirements

The hull must be fully cured and clean before any vinyl is applied. For new boats, gelcoat should be cured for at least 30 days. For older boats, the hull must be free of oxidation, wax, and contamination — we handle this prep in-house using a de-waxing solvent and surface preparation process.

Any hull damage — blisters, chips, or gelcoat repairs — should be completed before the wrap is scheduled. A properly prepared hull ensures maximum adhesion and prevents premature failure at the edges.

Off-Season Is the Smart Time to Wrap

The best time to wrap a boat in Rhode Island is during the off-season — late October through March — when the boat is already shrink-wrapped or in storage and you are not missing any time on the water. Off-season scheduling also means faster turnaround, as our production calendar is less compressed than during the spring launch rush.

If you are planning a wrap for the upcoming boating season, booking in January or February ensures the project is complete and ready for spring launch, with no lost weekends on the water.
